ถ้าต้องพูดเป็นภาษาอังกฤษว่า “ไม่รู้” หลายคนคงนึกออกแค่คำว่า “I don’t know” ทั้งที่จริงๆ ยังพูดได้อีกหลายแบบ แถมยังทำให้เราดูเป็นมืออาชีพมากขึ้นอีกด้วย ดังนั้นมาเรียนรู้ 10 ประโยคที่แปลว่า ไม่รู้ แต่ดูสุภาพและน่าสนใจกันดีกว่า ด้วยประโยคดังต่อไปนี้เลย

    1.    Let me check on that. ขอฉันลองตรวจสอบดูก่อนนะ

    2.    Let me find out for you. ขอฉันลองตรวจสอบดูก่อนนะ (โดย find out ในที่นี้ เป็นสำนวน แปลว่า ตรวจสอบ นั่นเอง)

    3.    I’ll double check and let you know. ฉันจะลองตรวจสอบดูอีกครั้ง และบอกให้คุณรู้ (ลองพูดแบบนี้ เพื่อให้ผู้ฟังรู้สึกว่าเราใส่ใจ ไม่ได้ละเลย)

    4.    That’s a really good question, I’ll check/find out. นั่นเป็นคำถามที่ดีจริงๆ ฉันจะลองตรวจสอบดู (ในที่นี่ให้เลือกว่าจะใช้ check หรือ find out ก็ได้ เพราะทั้งคู่แปลว่าตรวจสอบเหมือนกัน)

    5.    I haven’t looked at that yet. ฉันยังไม่ได้ดูเรื่องนั้นเลย (ข้อควรจำ ปกติ yet ที่แปลว่ายัง จะใช้อยู่ในรูป persent perfect คือ ประธาน + has, have + v.3 ประโยคจึงเป็นแบบข้างบนนั่นเอง)

    6.    I’m not 100% sure on that. ฉันไม่มั่นใจเรื่องนั้นร้อยเปอร์เซ็นต์ (เป็นการบอกว่าเราไม่มั่นใจเรื่องนั้นนัก หรือบอกเป็นนัยๆ ว่าเราไม่รู้นั่นเอง)

    7.    I don’t have that information here right now. ฉันยังไม่มีข้อมูลนั้นในขณะนี้ (นี่ก็เป็นอีกรูปแบบของการบอกว่า ‘ไม่รู้’ แบบสุภ้าพ..สุภาพ)

    8.    What do you suggest? คุณมีคำแนะนำอะไรไหม? (เมื่อไม่อยากบอกว่าไม่รู้ตรงๆ ลองใช้วิธีขอคำแนะนำจากเขาดู)

    9.    I haven’t got a clue. ฉันยังไม่มีเงื่อนงำอะไรเลย (การใช้ present perfect ในที่นี้ มีความหมายเดียวกับข้อ 5 คือเพื่อบอกว่า ‘ยัง’ นั่นเอง)

ลองหยิบไปใช้กันดู แล้วการบอก “ไม่รู้” จะไม่ต้องลงเอยด้วย I don’t know อีกต่อไป แถมยังดูสุภาพอีกด้วยล่ะ
